Who are We?

Wayfarers is an all male Barbershop chorus based in Southport.

What is Barbershop?

Barbershop harmony in its present form originated in the United States. The first example  of barbershop harmony appeared in public about 1880.   Barbershop music has simple, easily singable melodies, and is a style of a cappella, or unaccompanied singing.  There are four parts - tenor, baritone, bass and lead.

Most songs sung in this style were written from 1900 - 1940, but any song with similar musical characteristics (the Beatles' "Something," and "Michelle," and similar songs) are suitable.

Can anyone sing barbershop?

If you're the kind of guy who sings in the shower, sings in the car, sings to himself ... but wouldn’t dream of singing in public… well, you can sing barbershop.  You don't have to be able to read music, just be able to carry a tune.

How do I learn?

Most important of course is practice, but we can help with CDs and tapes of the songs we sing.

OK- I am interested - what next?

Contact Jim Stubbs on 07891907449 and come along to a practice night and see what it is all about.  We will make you most welcome.
